Functioning principle

"I am convinced, that an effective and sustainable treatment of the Varroa mite, making use of natural methods, is the right way in the long term."

Functioning principle of Hyperthermia

The Varroa controller exposes the varroa mites and the bee larvae to a specific temperature which kills the mite without harming the bee larvae.

When reaching the specific treatment temperature, the vital protein synthesis process of the Varroa mite is damaged.

For the bee larvae, this temperature level is not harmful. The development of the Varroa Controller is based on the known method of hyperthermia (already investigated in the late 1980s).

A successful series of tests with 25 beekeepers using prototypes of the Varroa Controller were completed in 2009 and 2010.

Based on the results of these test, the treatment parameters were optimized and a new design of the Varroa controller was developed.
